Monthly Wrap-up

★★
I actually don't even remember what this book was about, that's how awful it was. But I gave it 2 stars b/c it was okay enough for me to finish it.

★★★★
Really great fiction book with real life pictures. It was a cool concept. Interview style writing, telling the life of a young artist. I'm still not really sure who the girl in the pictures is, but its a good read.

★★★★★
I went back and fourth between giving this 4 and 5 stars b/c I did enjoy this book, but the characters I wanted to strangle sometimes. The old lady was hateful. At times I felt bad for her b/c she did fall for a scam, but then she started scamming people?! And she was just hateful. The teenager I felt sorry for at first. A rich white girl who gets thrown in foster care b/c her parents get arrested. She runs away from foster care and is almost sold into a sex slave ring. She then runs away from the predator. That is where my sympathy ends for the most part. She's a vegan, and not only a vegan, but doesn't eat sugar or white bread or salt or fucking everything. Which is fine, when you're in your house, but not when you're a 15 year old  fugitive. When people are offering to buy you food and you turn them down b/c you "can't" eat it?! Fuck that. She almost starved in jail (really it was barley 3 days, which is not starving to death) b/c she wouldn't eat anything. But it was a cute story and for the most part I enjoyed it.

By far, the best book I read all month. Amazing. Highly recommend.

Wordless Wednesday

I  know today is supposed to be wordless Wednesday, but I read this book over the weekend, and I wanted to share some of my favorite memoirs. The book was called "I can't keep my own secrets" and it was authors, and celebrities, and I guess some random people, sharing their 6 word memoirs. Here are some of my favorites.

I picked this book, b/c for my reading challenge I have to read a book suggested by a librarian. My library had a table set up with all suggestions from librarians. I thought it would be a quick read, and I was right, but I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. It made me think about what my 6 word memoirs would be.

"I push on pull doors. Always"

"Not how I pictured my life"

"Son from a broken home. Regret"

"Moved away. Moved back. Parents divorced"

"Chose happiness and myself over you"

"Spent 10 years miserable. Finally happy"

"I am not my eating disorder"

If you could come up with a 6 word memoir what would it be?

Pin it Tuesday

If someone came up to me and told me they would buy me any car in the world, I wouldn't pick a sports car, or something fast or girly. I would pick a jeep wrangler, year doesn't matter as long as it's new-ish, and has to be 4 door. These are super expensive, but the good thing about them is the are pretty much bad-ass just stock. You can of course add other things to make them more bad-ass but look great right off the lot. Starting around 30 grand for a new one, I will own one one day!!

If I had to pick a color, I would either pick this blue, or the orange!

CharLovesVille

On August 12, my beautiful hometown was a invaded by a group of white supremacist.  Thousands of them, although I am unsure of actual numbers. I know about 7,000 protesters and counter protests from here and out of town were expected. It turned very bad very quickly. The violence, if I'm being honest, was above anything I thought. They beat a black man in a garage with 2x4s while screaming the "N" word at home. Fights broke out all over, but the worst of it all was when a car plowed through a side street running of protesters on "our side" injuring 19 and killing 1. The act is being called a terriost attack, although they have not charged the driver with that charge.

This act ripped the heart of this town apart. People of both political parties came together against racism. Different events were organized all over the town to show support to each other. I've gone downtown and visited the memorial. And I've gone down to the mural on the other end of the mall. It's awful the see my hometown on CNN and FOX and even international news. It breaks my heart that this is what people know our little town for. For days, it's all anyone could talk about. I would actually get annoyed at my friends who wanted complain about mundane things, like their husband bringing home the wrong cheese for dinner. Everyone's feelings were so raw. I had conversations with people I didn't know, people from around the country friend requesting me and checking in. I had conversations with Trump supporters, and I had conversations with people who want to keep the statue. The only thing on my fb for days, was the rally.

I've been trying to show my support for the town when I can. I usually find out about events after the fact, due to them not being on social media, for safety reasons. My friend Heather has a shop on etsy and came up with these decals to show support. Half the proceeds are going to go to the patient relief fund set up for the victims of the terrorist attack. I picked them up yesterday, and am in love with it. I can't wait to put it on my jeep.

Monthly Wrap-up

It's late, but I couldn't do this last month, so here is my last months wrap up!! I was on vacation for a week, so I didn't read as much as last month, but still not too bad! And! I even read the book club book

★★★
A random find on KU and it wasn't what I thought it would be....It was a suspense like it said, but it was a little too sexual for me. I didn't care for that part of it.

★★★
From the author of Girl on the Train, which I loved. I didn't like this one as much. It took me about a month to finish.

★★★
This was a sequel to a book I read in January. I did not like this as much as the first one, which I was disappointed about.

★★★★
Book club pick, and it was a fun spin on Peter Pan. I don't see many Peter Pan retellings

                                                                    ★★★★★
This one was a random find on amazon KU and it was the best book of the month!!! I've been on a suspense kick lately, but this was a great read. Highly recommend!!
